Signs Point to Buckeyes-Tigers for Title

NEW YORK (AP) — The first piece of the BCS puzzle has been revealed and LSU appears to be a good bet to join Ohio State in the national championship game. The USA Today coaches' poll released Sunday had Ohio State as a comfortable No. 1, which was no surprise. The Buckeyes received 46 first-place votes and 1,469 points.

LSU was a solid No. 2 in the coaches' poll. The Southeastern Conference champions, who lost for the second time this season less than two weeks ago, had 1,418 points.

The Bowl Championship Series uses the coaches' poll, the Harris poll and a compilation of computer ratings to determine which teams will play in the national title game on Jan. 7 in New Orleans.

The two polls count for two-thirds of a team's BCS average, and points received, not just rankings, are taken into account. The computer ratings make up the other third of a team's BCS average.

BCS analyst Jerry Palm, who runs http://www.collegebcs.com, said Sunday in a phone interview that Ohio State and LSU are both likely to be among the top three teams in the computer ratings. If so, it would take a dramatic difference in the Harris poll to keep LSU from grabbing the second spot in the final BCS standings and a matchup with Ohio State at the Superdome.

"Unless Oklahoma is No. 1 and USC is No. 2 ... Unless we see something totally off the wall in the Harris poll," Palm said LSU is safe.

The Harris poll was due out later Sunday and the BCS matchups were to be revealed Sunday night.

Oklahoma was a distant third in the coaches' poll with 1,331 points, followed by Georgia (1,277 points), Virginia Tech (1,242 points) and Southern California (1,227 points).

After Missouri and West Virginia lost Saturday night, it opened the way for a team with two losses to play for a BCS national championship for the first time.

Barring another wacky turn of events in a season full of them, LSU will be the lucky two-time loser.

BCS party at Stan Sheriff tomorrow, All invited

The University of Hawai'i has invited its fans to take part in a segment of Fox Sports' live showing of the Bowl Championship Series Selection Show tomorrow from the Stan Sheriff Center.

The Warriors, 12-0, rallied from 21 points down to defeat Washington, 35-28, at Aloha Stadium tonight.

The Warriors are expected to clinch a berth in the BCS.

Sheriff Center gates will open at 2:15 p.m. and fans are expected to be seated by 2:50 p.m., for the program which starts at 3 p.m., UH said.

Admission is free and UH officials say they would like to fill the 10,300-seat arena much as Boise State did for their BCS announcement last year.

UH coach June Jones, Warrior players, cheerleaders, Rainbow Dancers and pep band will take part.

The bowl pairings, which likely would send UH to the Allstate Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, will be revealed in the 40-minute program that follows Fox's NFL coverage at 3 p.m. Hawai'i time. Fox will televise four of the five BCS bowls, including the Jan. 1 Sugar Bowl.

"This will be an incredible atmosphere with members of the football team, cheerleaders, pep band and enthusiastic fns participating," said Herman Frazier, UH athletic director. "We want to show the nation the fantastic support that our Warriors receive from the entire Hawai'i ohana."

"They are an exciting team that we want America to get to know better, and what better way than when you have a prime-time BCS selection show?" said Fox spokesman Dan Bell.

"Not only are they a tremendous story, they have one of the best players in the country in Colt Brennan, one of the most exciting offenses and best teams in the country."

Last year, Fox did a similar segment from Boise State's jam-packed 12,380-seat Taco Bell Arena as the 12-0 Broncos received their Fiesta Bowl bid.Fans are encouraged to wear green shirts and bring ti leaves, pom-poms and signs.

Last year's selection show drew an audience of 13.3 million households. The 2007 Sugar Bowl was seen in 14.5 million households, according to Fox.

Norman Mailer, the author whose name was synonymous with literary celebrity in the second half of the 20th century, died Saturday at the age of 84.

Mailer died of renal failure at Mount Sinai Hospital, said J. Michael Lennon, his biographer.

Mailer’s death represents “the loss of a literary giant who was 100 percent American,” said Dick Cavett.

His books are:

1."The Naked and the Dead" (1948): Called one of the greatest war novels, not without reason.

2."The Armies of the Night" (1968): This account of the 1967 march against the Pentagon created New Journalism.

3."The Executioner's Song" (1979): The story of Gary Gilmore that many critics regard as Mailer's true masterpiece.

A Mountlake Terrace High School dropout who is suspected of assuming at least three identities to gain entrance to some of the nation's most prestigious colleges and to fraudulently collect more than $100,000 in student loans is now the subject of a federal investigation.

Esther Reed, 29, disappeared from the area in 1999 after pleading guilty in King County to stealing her sister's checkbook. Since then, law-enforcement officials say, she has conned friends, employers, boyfriends and college-admissions officials into believing she was one of three different women whose identities she assumed in order to gain admission into Harvard, Columbia and California State University, Fullerton.

Reed is now wanted by federal authorities because she fraudulently received more than $100,000 in student loans, racked up credit-card bills and obtained a passport in someone else's name, according to federal charging papers. She was indicted last summer by a federal grand jury in South Carolina on charges of mail fraud, wire fraud, aggravated identity theft and Social Security fraud, according to the indictment that was unsealed this week.

Assistant U.S. Attorney W. Walter Wilkins said the U.S. Marshals Service and the Secret Service, which is assigned to investigate identity theft and Social Security fraud, are searching for the missing woman. He said that if Reed is found, tried and convicted she could face more than 20 years in prison.

"She could be anywhere," said Wilkins, who is based in Greenville, S.C. "Esther Reed has obviously become very creative and skilled in assuming somebody else's identification."

Before the indictment, Reed was wanted by King County authorities for the checkbook theft and by police in Travelers Rest, S.C., home of a missing woman whose identity Reed allegedly assumed.

On July 4, 1999 — the same year Reed last spoke with her family in the Pacific Northwest — Brooke Henson vanished from a house party in Travelers Rest. Local police believed the 20-year-old woman had been slain, until receiving a telephone call from New York City police last year.

Henson, a high-school dropout, had somehow gained entrance to Columbia University. A prospective employer researching Henson's background contacted police in New York when she found a Web site dedicated to the missing woman, according to police in Travelers Rest.

Dumbledore is Gay?! OMG

Just a little over a year ago, on August 2, 2006, J.K. Rowling made a statement at her reading in New York City, at Radio City Music Hall, that was big news and related directly to what we talk about on this web site. She said Dumbledore was dead, and even mentioned this web site (which used to be called dumbledoreisnotdead.com) by name. Well, tonight she's done it again.

This evening, again in New York City, this time at Carnegie Hall, J.K. Rowling dropped a bombshell on the Harry Potter fan community. When asked by a fan if Dumbledore ever loved anyone, J.K. Rowling replied Dumbledore was gay. Reports from the scene say a hush fell over the crowd and then it broke out in applause, to which J.K. replied that if she had known that would be the response, she would've revealed her thoughts on Dumbledore earlier.

She went on to say that while she was reading Steve Kloves' script for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, she came across a passage in which Dumbledore was reminiscing about past loves, and she corrected it by crossing it out and scrawling "Dumbledore is gay" in the margin.

I, personally, was very surprised by this news. Not that I thought there couldn't be gay Wizards and not that I'd have anything against them if they were. (Lockhart is obviously gay, for example, and I think fans assume the whole Wizarding world knows it, and doesn't care... And he's one of our favorite characters.) It's just that I never for minute suspected it about Dumbledore. But, looking back, should we have seen clues that this was true?

We learned a great amount about Dumbledore in the final book that we never knew before, especially about his past. J.K. herself tonight said Dumbledore's being gay explains why he was originally taken in by Grindelwald, that it started off as an infatuation. Looking back at the book, the clues hinting at this are all there. In the excerpt from The Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore, Rita Skeeter says Bathilda Bagshot says, about the young Grindelwald:

"He seemed a charming boy to me," babbles Bathilda, "whatever he became later. Naturally I introduced him to poor Albus, who was missing the company of lads his own age. The boys took to each other at once." (DH pg 356/291)

Also in her book, Skeeter says Grindelwald was expelled from Durmstrang at sixteen years old, and was forced to leave the country, "traveling abroad for some months". We know Durmstrang isn't shy about teaching the dark arts. Is it possible more than experimenting with dark magic caused Grindelwald's falling out with Durmstrang?

And then later, Bathilda says something funny about Ariana's funeral:

"Albus was beside himself at Ariana's death ... A shame Gellert could not have stayed for the funeral... He would have been a comfort to Albus, at least..." (DH pg 358/292)

Was Grindelwald gay too? Or was he just good at stringing people along, telling them what they wanted to hear, for his own purposes?

And in Deathly Hallows, one of the earliest things we learn about Dumbledore's past is told to us by Elphias Doge, in his eulogy of Dumbledore, when he says that after graduation from Hogwarts, he and Dumbledore had, in his words, "intended to take the then-traditional tour of the world together". In my first readings of the book, I took that phrasing to mean that it was traditional for Wizards to do that together. But is it possible that it was the trip itself that was the tradition, and that there was more than just a friendship between Elphias and Dumbledore?

Were there other, earlier signs in the books that Dumbledore was gay? In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, after Sirius has died, Dumbledore tells Harry,

"You fought a man's fight. I was ... prouder of you than can say." (OotP pg 837/738)

"I cared about you too much. I cared more for your happiness than knowing the truth." (OotP pg 838/739)

"I never dreamed that I would have such a person on my hands." (OotP pg 839/739)

I'm not suggesting that anything ever happened between Dumbledore and Harry, nor am I suggesting Dumbledore ever wanted something to happen. But in the same way it sparked his relationship with Grindelwald, can we not say that his homosexuality allowed Dumbledore to feel a special bond between Harry and himself, a bond normally reserved for a boy and a relative, like a father or older brother?

And what of Dumbledore's relationships with other men? We know Snape is heterosexual because of his undying feelings for Lily. But could Dumbledore's platonic affection for Snape help to explain why he trusted Snape when everyone else thought he was a fool to do so?

Ironically, of all the characters in the Harry Potter story, it was Harry himself who was the brunt of the rumors of being gay, as he had grown up "in the closet". Also, had he not gone to Hogwarts, the Dursleys told him he would attend Stonewall High. The Stonewall, a bar in New York City that was raided by the police in 1966, is an icon in the history of gay rights. But ever since the first book, the Harry Potter story has gained a great number of fans who are gay, because of how the story deals with Harry's feeling "different", and never understanding "what was wrong with him", until he finally got to find out that there were others like him, when he went to Hogwarts.

J.K.'s admission about Dumbledore tonight opens up a whole part of the Wizarding world that we previously could only guess about. Can we infer from the way Lockhart was treated that the Wizarding world was generally permissive of homosexuality? If so, why did Dumbledore hide that he was gay? Does the fact that Dumbledore was gay help to explain how and why he did what he did? Were you surprised by J.K.'s announcement? From what we were told in the book, should we have been able to guess that Dumbledore was gay?

aiku is an activity stream and presence sharing service that works from the Web and mobile phones. Jaiku, Ltd. was founded in February, 2006 by Jyri Engeström and Petteri Koponen from Finland. The service was released on the Web in July 2006. Jaiku is based in Helsinki.

Why did Google acquire Jaiku anyway?
Activity streams and mobile presence are important areas where Jaiku believes Google can add a lot of value for users. Jaiku's technology and talented team are a great addition to Google's current application and mobile teams.

Einestages is the latest project which tries to tap into the knowledge of its readers whilst ensuring quality control. The site wants to build a collective and living memory of contemporary history based on documents and stories.

They use a few metaphors to structure the site: topics, witnesses, lost property office, database of memories, debates. Basically the editorial team sets the agenda and they provide thematical or personal stories and annotate them with documents. They already have teamed up with a few archives so they won’t run short on them. Then the readers can chime in and discuss or rate the stories, upload related photos, propose new topics, etc.

Bottom line: einestages definitely should become a great site for everyone interested in history. It probably is as social as traditional media can get, but they should have kept the altruistic ball a little lower. einestages will officially launch tomorrow.

However, his tiny size benefits him enormously. In January, he had the proud experience of attending a show in Tokyo, Japan, with the invitation of a local television station.

Shoichi Yokoi was a soldier, conscripted into the Imperial Japanese Army in 1941 and sent to Guam shortly thereafter. In 1944, as American forces reconquered the island, Yokoi went into hiding.

On January 24, 1972, Yokoi was discovered in a remote section of Guam by two of the island's inhabitants. For 28 years he had been hiding in an underg r ound jungle cave, fearing to come out of hiding even after finding leaflets declaring that World War II had ended. 4.Mehran: lives at the Airport since 1988

Mehran Karimi Nasseri, also known as Sir, Alfred Mehran (yes, including the comma), is an Iranian refugee who has been living in the departure lounge of Terminal One in Charles de Gaulle Airport since August 8, 1988. After he was later imprisoned, tortured and expelled from his country, he applied for asylum in many European countries without luck.

When he decided to go to the United Kingdom, he claimed that he was mugged, and his shoulder bag stolen while waiting at the RER platform to go to Charles d e Gaulle Airport to take a flight to Heathrow. Nasseri managed to board the plane, but wh en he arrived at Heathrow without the necessary documentation, Heathrow officials sent him back to Charles de Gaulle. Nasseri was unable to prove his identity or his refugee status to the French officials and so he was moved to the Zone d'attente (waiting zone), a holding area for travellers wit hout papers.

Nasseri was reportedly the inspiration behind the 2004 movie The Terminal. Unlike Tom Hanks' character in the movie, and since at least 1994, Nasseri does not live in the duty-free transit area but simply in the departure hall, in the circ ular bo utiques and restaurants passage on the lowest floor. He can at least theoretically leave the terminal at any moment, although, since everyone knows him, his departure might not remain unnoticed. He does not seem to speak with anyone normally. With his cart and bags, he almost looks like a traveler, so people either do not notice him or ignore him as if he were a homeless person.

Kathy Sierra is a programming instructor and game developer who created the Head First series of books on computer programming with her partner Bert Bates.

The series, which began with Head First Java in 2003, takes an unorthodox, visually intensive approach to the process of teaching programming. Conservative columnist Cathy Seipp dies at 49 in LA

Catherine Seipp, a conservative columnist and media critic who wrote for Buzz magazine and National Review Online, has died. She was 49.

Seipp, a nonsmoker, died of lung cancer on Wednesday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, her father, Harvey Seipp, said Thursday.

She was diagnosed five years ago and wrote about her illness on her blog, "Cathy's World."

Seipp was stubbornly opinionated but that was her strength as a writer, her father said.

"She ... could put words on any emotion that she felt. She wasn't a politician or a diplomat or even tactful, frequently, but she was the honest artist," he said.

"She was honest in everything she did, and that was her power."

A Republican, she weighed in on conservative hot-button issues ranging from Hollywood liberals to government recognition of gay marriage.

"This isn't to say that gays shouldn't have the right to live together in whatever domestic arrangements they choose, or register at Barney's and invite their friends and family over for a ceremony and call it marriage. That's their business," Cathy Seipp said in a column about gay marriage last year. "I just don't see why taxpayers should have to subsidize it."

Born in 1957 in Winnipeg, Canada, she was a longtime Los Angeles resident.

She worked for The Associated Press, the California Apparel News and the Daily News of Los Angeles.

In the 1990s, she began writing a column for now-defunct Buzz magazine that humorously skewered the Los Angeles Times.

"She had a distinctive voice and a truly interesting sensibility," Buzz founder Allan Mayer told the Times. "Almost regardless of the subject she was writing, journalism, politics, social affairs, trends, you could count on her to have a well-thought-out but unpredictable take."

After leaving Buzz, she wrote columns for Mediaweek, UPI and Salon and was a regular guest on CNBC's "The Dennis Miller Show."

Most recently, she wrote a column called "From the Left Coast" for National Review Online and a monthly column for the Independent Women's Forum.

"Cathy always had something fresh, smart and bold to say always honest and very often disarming," Kathryn Jean Lopez, editor of National Review Online, told the Times in an e-mail. "Whether it be about Paris Hilton or the WB or parenting or war, she was always worth reading."

In addition to her father, Seipp is survived by her daughter, Maia; mother Claire Ungerleider and a sister, Michele Seipp.

The South by Southwest music festival is spreading through online broadcasts and downloadable podcasts.

Beginning Wednesday, NPR will provide extensive broadcasts of the festival, held annually in Austin, Texas, where 1,300 bands are squeezed into a few downtown blocks for four nights. If you're not in Austin, the next best place might be http://www.NPR.org/southbysouthwest.

The site will cull performances hosted by NPR member stations (KCRW in Santa Monica, Calif.; KUT in Austin, WFUV in New York, KEXP in Seattle and WXPN in Philadelphia). More than 20 acts can be heard live, including the groovy electronica of Fujiya & Miyagi.

For the first time, there'll be round-the-clock live broadcasts through DirecTV, with performances and programming hosted by MTV VJ Matt Pinfield and Slunt lead singer Abbey Gennet. "SXSW Live" will air Thursday through Saturday. Interactive options will offer information on performing bands.

YouTube access banned in Turkey

Turkish Internet users are now greeted with a message when they try to access Google Inc.'s video sharing site informing them that its access has been blocked in the country. A court order was issued to telecommunications companies in the country after videos appeared on the site that reportedly insulted former Turkish leader Mustafa Kemal Ataturk.

Turkish media reported that a "virtual war" between Greek and Turkish users of the site followed the videos, with more insulting video responses posted by both sides. The clip that started the whole fuss referred to Ataturk and Turks as homosexuals. Insulting Ataturk, the founding father of modern Turkey, or "Turkishness" is an offense which can result in a prison sentence.

Turkish users who try to access YouTube currently see this message...

"Access to www.youtube.com site has been suspended in accordance with decision no: 2007/384 dated 06.03.2007 of Istanbul First Criminal Peace Court".

Paul Doany, the head of Turk Telecom, said access to the site was blocked as soon as the court order came through. "We are not in the position of saying that what YouTube did was an insult, that it was right or wrong," Mr Doany told Anatolia news agency. "A court decision was proposed to us, and we are doing what that court decision says."

Of course, YouTube did not do anything wrong since it a user driven site. In fact, after several complaints, YouTube removed the offending videos. Turkey, which hopes to join the European Union, has been pressured to ease up Article 301 by the EU as it makes "insults to Turkish culture" an offense. The European Union's stance is that the law places severe restrictions on free speech in Turkey.

And in the spirit of free speech, Turkish users should be advised that using public proxy's (or private services if you are willing to pay) or even TOR may help to get around the block, although speed of video loading will be affected.

In 2003, U.S. President Bush 2003 said in State of the Union address: "The British government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa."

Now a former ambassador Joe Wilson wrote a newspaper piece saying the president was using bad information to make his case for Iraq war. The White House struck back, leaking to reporters that Wilson was sent to Africa by his wife Valerie Plame, a CIA operative.

Libby was one of the leakers, but he was not convicted of revealing Plame's intentions. Libby is guilty of lying to a grand jury and investigators about who told him about Valerie Plame.

In court, defense lawyers argued Libby originally learned about Wilson's wife from Vice President Dick Cheney, and then forgot it and then learned it again from NBC's Tim Russert.

"The jury was obviously convinced beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendant had lied and obstructed justice in a serious matter," said Patric Fitzgerald, Special Prosecutor.

Defense lawyers promise the fight is not over. Libby is facing a maximum of 25 years in prison, and his defense intends to file a motion for a new trial.

According to The Sun, which featured an interview with a close friend of the rapper, "He said he still loves her."

According to reports, Kevin Federline, along with members of Britney's family, grew increasingly concerned by Britney's wild behavior and asked her to check into rehab, which she did twice. Both her stay in a rehab facility in Antigua and her first time at the Promises rehab facility lasted less than 24 hours. After Spears left the Malibu rehab facility, he threatened to take the couple's two children away from her via an emergency custody hearing with the Los Angeles Superior Court. Britney Spears then checked herself back into the rehab facility, where she has stayed for almost two weeks now.

However, the rumors coming out of the Promises rehab facility have been less than encouraging. The News of the World has quoted a friend of Britney Spears' who said that the singer was "crying, and shouting, 'I am the Antichrist!'" Following the antichrist remarks, the source told the British tabloid, "Later that night she tried to kill herself. She attached a sheet to a light and tied it around her neck. Paramedics were called, but luckily she was unhurt."

The source quoted by the News of the World goes on to say that, "The clinic people just didn't know what to do [when she ran around claiming she's the Antichrist]. Then she started screaming, ‘I'm a fake! I'm a fake!' It must have been really frightening. When she tried to hang herself it was more a cry for help."

The story about Britney's supposed meltdown has yet to be confirmed by any official sources. According to the report from the weekly entertainment magazine's website when co- host Elisabeth Hasselbeck suggested that it might have been because Davis's site was for pay, O'Donnell said she did not buy the argument.

"I think it's racist. I do," said O'Donnell, adding in reference to Davis, "I think it's because she's black." Davis herself has questioned the fairness of the situation in interviews.

"I think it's fantastic if Idol has evolved and I think it's fantastic she won't have to go through what I went through four years ago," the singer told the New York Post. "But if the rules have changed, I believe there should be something to make up for the fact that I was humiliated needlessly."

The magazine notes that Davis, 27, who described her 2003 ordeal as a "very painful experience," said that she would love to speak to the show's producers but emphasized, "I wish no one ill. With the furore over her mucky photo's dying down and veiwing figures for American Idol beginning to slump, it has been decided that in next weeks' show, Antonella Barba will not sing but simulate sex with a series of barnyard animals.

American Idol producers reached the controversal decision after a series of high powered meetings. It is believed that the revenue generated by Miss Barba's indiscrections has made the popular TV show millions of dollars and bosses are keen to capitalise on what is seen as a lucrative 'cash cow'.

"Miss Barba has no chance of winning the competition if she sings," said Idol judge Simon Cowell, "However this is not just a singing competition, there are other factors at work here as well. Does she appeal to the American public? Does she have the X-factor? How much profit will we make if she gives a horse a soapy tit-wank?"

Many family groups are furious at the new direction the show has taken.

Pastor Bob Earlobe, chairman of the Iowa Family First Christian Fellowship, told us, "It is an outrage that Miss Barba does not have to sing. I think all the contestants should have to simulate sex on stage, otherwise it's just not fair."

Washington, D.C. - Prominent politicians from both parties and a gay-rights group on Saturday condemned right-wing commentator Ann Coulter for her reference Friday to Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards as a "faggot."

American idol judge Simon Cowell spoke out in defense of the 20-year old woman and ripped into her pals that placed her photos on the internet. "I think it's disgraceful that so-called friends would sell these pictures. It's private property. I really, really have a problem with that – big problem."

Cowell said that he believes photos showing nudity should not be grounds for dismissal. "These people haven't done anything illegal; that's their private life," he stressed. He believes that the racy photos of Barba should "not affect her standing on the show, and if the public wants to keep her in, they'll keep her in."

American Idol producer Nigel Lythgoe had said earlier that he would not boot the 'Jersey girl' off because of the photos and added that her fate "was in the voters' hands." She was handed another week by those voters.

StudiVZ is the name of a social networking service for university students in Europe, based in Berlin, Germany. The name is an abbreviation of the German expression Studentenverzeichnis, which means students directory.

Love Oscars

So I need to get up early tomorrow, but I want to know who's on Cojo's worst dressed Oscars list. What else do you do while you wait but blog.

So, those of you who know me well enough know that I live pretty close to that certain part of Hollywood's anatomy known as the Kodak Theater. For those of you who don't know, this is the theater where they have the oscars and, this being Los Angeles, the city's fathers were out doing what they do best: blocking of streets and causing traffic jams.

It's one AM ish and the cleaning crew is probably wrapping up now, but this past week was a burning Atlanta of baracades, security guards and really un-glamorous structures being erected wherever space is available to be taken up. The subway station was closed that day, all day, from midnight to midnight, on a day that you might think would be one of the most ideal of days to encourage the use of public transportation. Commuters will still be feeling the effects on Wednesday, if they're lucky. Funny how much congestion an all-green Oscar ceremony can cause.

That said, the Oscar ceremony was, in a refreshing break from tradition, top-notch and entertaining, thanks in no small part to my new girl crush Ellen. The diversity of the nominees, the number of Mexican contenders, the Al Gore air time, the dancers, the sound effects chorus, the Marty upset. The only things missing weres Lois January and May Giraci obit clips. Oh well, it's so hard being a fan of somebody who passes in obscurity.

Due to the Oscar foo going on around my homeland, I ended up spending the night at Jessie's house and going with her to the Huntington Park location the next morning for the second and final quadrant of our music video shoot. We couldn't have done it without George Michael on the radio. (George Michael is such a faggot; I love that!) The shoot went well and I got to bond a lot with our makeup artist, Jennifer. We like Jennifer. We like her a lot. She was great, she did a terrific job and she wasn't giving me weird looks like the other one was. I want to work with her again soon.

Jessie and Satish allowed me to join them for the Oscars. I kept thinking about my friends Jeff and Andrew in Mountain View, and the fabulous Oscar Party they were no doubt throwing right then and there. Satish cooked hella food, which was all really good and really well made. We had a good, very casual, humble time, the three of us.

Other stuff happened of course, and a lot is coming up, but I don't want to talk about it right now. I'm curious to see how my Voice Articulation class pans out.

It's been a while since we've had a juicy Idol scandal, but it would appear that there's a big one brewing. Some rather racy photos of Antonella Barba have surfaced and were circulating throughout cyberspace all day Friday. Vote for the Worst had published some rather innocuous "girls-gone-wild" type shots of Antonella on Wednesday, and while they weren't terribly flattering, they certainly could be written off as good, old-fashioned college fun.

The pictures that showed up Friday were a different story. One set features a young woman bearing a striking resemblance to Antonella in various wet tee shirt poses at what appeared to be some kind of war memorial. They appeared to be professionally done and may have been part of her modeling portfolio. Again, not earth-shattering, but a bit more racy than TPTB might like to have circulating.

The killer photos show a young woman who looks strikingly like Antonella engaged in a sexual act. They aren't pretty. The photos were posted anonymously and the poster claims to know one of the participants.

In an interview on EW.com, Idol producer Nigel Lythgoe says he has not seen any of the pictures, and incredible as it may seem, found out about them from EW. ''We have really good background checks on everybody, and we deal with that every season,'' he said. ''It's sad, isn't it, that your best friends are the ones that come forward with information that will go to Smoking Gun or put your photographs on the web?'' With friends like that, you know!

I don't believe for a minute that Idol didn't know about this photos. The official American Idol message board was buzzing with this news all day Friday, and there's no way that someone from the show isn't monitoring those posts. The AP even picked up on this story for crying out loud!

If these pictures really are Antonella, there is no way they can allow her to stay in the competition. They disqualified Frenchie Davis for some nude photos that surfaced prior to her making the finals, and trust me, those pictures were nowhere near as bad as the ones of Antonella. Besides, it's not as though she's some great talent - the girl is marginal at best. She's got to go.

The damage control squad has to be overdrive about now trying to figure out a way to spin this. I suspect they will let her go this weekend, and then on Tuesday, Ryan will announce that Antonella was too upset and embarrassed to continue in the competition. Then they'll only eliminate one of the girls on Thursday and that will be that. That would be the kindest way to handle it.

In the end, here's a young woman who did some stupid things and obviously trusted the wrong people (either that or she has some serious enemies). Her reputation is ruined and she will forever be remembered in Idol history not for her singing, which was forgettable, but for her indiscretions - whether it's her or not. Kids - and at 20, she's still a kid - don't really understand the ramifications of their actions, and how something one does at 19 or 20 can affect the rest of their lives. I know, I sound like a mom, but it's so true. I feel for her parents.

Will Antonella Barba Photos Help Or Hurt Her American Idol Chances?

The biggest American Idol story circulating is about alleged photos of American Idol semi-finalist Antonella Barba that show her engaged in some very un-Idol like behavior. Earlier this week, some of the search engines started to report on spikes in searches for Antonella Barba. While early speculation revolved around her being one of the most popular contestants, the searches were likely the result of revealing photos that were just starting to surface on message boards and blogs.

The first photos were very mild and allegedly showed Antonella on the toilet and posed topless with other girls (with her hands covering her breasts). More recent photos that have surfaced have been much more revealing in nature. On the official American Idol message boards, posts giving link information to the most controversial pictures seem to be popping up and being deleted every couple of minutes.

On the American Idol top twelve girls performance show, the controversial pictures were not addressed, but Paula Abdul did offer some sympathetic words to Antonella after her performance was criticized by Randy Jackson. Despite less than stellar overall feedback from the judges, Antonella survived in the competition during Thursday’s American Idol results show.

There has been much speculation over if Antonella Barba will be disqualified from the competition like American Idol 2 finalist Frenchie Davis. However, Entertainment Weekly reported on comments from Nigel Lythgoe that seem to suggest that she will not be forced out. Many wondered if the lovely New Jersey girl would get the boot early in the competition because of the pics. Add to that, her performance during week one wasn't very good. She performed the Aerosmith song "Don't Want to Miss a Thing," on Wednesday night's show, and it's more accurate to say that it was flat out awful.

But with the pictures floating around she received enough votes to keep her on the show, despite judge Simon Cowell predicting her demise. Barba appeared stunned when she was told Thursday night by host Ryan Seacrest that she was not among the four contestants from the group of 24 who would be going home this week. The lowest vote-getters - Paul Kim, Amy Krebs, Nicole Tranquillo and Rudy Cardenas - were told they had been voted off the show.

And now, AOL Entertainment website TMZ.Com reports that everyone is looking for the 'Jersey girl's' photos. The celebrity site reports that Barba is what everyone's curious about. Even with Anna Nicole and Britney dominating the headlines, the search was on for Antonella Barba. That helps the young gal's chances on idol, it certainly doesn't hurt.

If she can just hold her own and skip songs like the last effort, she should hang around for a few more weeks on looks alone. She has zero shot at the title but so far she is the most interesting story - thanks to those photos.

According to new reports, Britney checked in to rehab last week after her mother, Lynne Spears, staged an intervention.

Unfortunately for everyone, as we all know, the defiant and delusional former pop star checked right out of the treatment facility after only 24 hours!

On Wednesday of last week, Lynne took action after she found her daughter incapacitated and sprawled out on the floor in the middle of the day.

Sounds like a party!

According to a source, she had been 'partying heavily and was completely out of it.'

Lynne Spears then reportedly threatened her 25-year-old daughter that she would take her two children away from her unless she checked into rehab.

Trashney left the Crossroads rehab facility in Antigua after just one day and she headed back to Los Angeles, which infuriated her mother, then in Louisiana.

The pair reportedly got into a huge fight over the phone, and shortly thereafter a rebellious Spears shaved off all of her hair and got two new tattoos.

A friend of Britney's says, "[She's been] thriving on the publicity of her recent behaviour. She feels a failure professionally and unloved in her personal life. It's as if she is getting a kick out of doing increasingly erratic things just to see how the public and media react. Sadly, she is getting confused by what she sees as adoration, when it's actually her fans reacting in horror."

Thankfully, Britney has not been seen with her children in public for at least a week.

Britney Spears appeared in a tattoo parlor in California with her head shaved completely bald.

Video on KABC-TV showed the newly shorn Spears with tiny tattoos on the back of her neck as she sat Friday night for a new tattoo — a pair of red and pink lips.

"She just wanted something real small on her wrist, something dainty," Max Gott, the tattoo artist at Body and Soul in Sherman Oaks, told the TV station. "She got some cute little lips on her wrist."

Derrik Snell, who works at the tattoo parlor, said Spears showed up without notice and stayed for about 90 minutes as about 60 fans, photographers and gawkers gathered outside.

"She seemed fine," Snell said. "I didn't really notice (the hairdo) at first, she had a hood on when she showed up."

The appearance came the same day as reports on TV and websites that Spears, who has drawn criticism for her recent partying and sloppy behavior, had briefly checked into rehab.

Larry Rudolph, Spears' manager, could not be reached for comment.

Syndicated entertainment TV show Extra first reported that Spears had entered a treatment facility. Celebrity website TMZ.com then said the singer had entered a treatment center but had checked out one day later. Neither revealed their sources.

People magazine's website, citing "a source," said Spears had gone in and out of rehab, and identified the facility as Eric Clapton's Crossroads center on the Caribbean island of Antigua.

Access Hollywood then said the reports were not true, but did not cite a source.

A woman who answered the phone at Crossroads told the Associated Press that she could not confirm or deny anyone's presence at the facility.

Angelique Uram, a Spears fan who stood on the tattoo parlor's sidewalk for Friday night's spectacle, was aghast at the singer's new look.

"We could see her in the mirror, and her head is completely shaved," she told KABC. "It looks terrible."

Police arrived to control the crowd and helped Spears' bodyguards guide her into a waiting SUV, her head covered by a hooded sweat shirt.
